Called to Serve, Driven to Teach: The Story of Scott Temple

At Elevate Healthcare, we believe in honoring the people behind the progress — the educators, innovators, and caregivers who shape the future of clinical training. Scott Temple, our Group Leader of Education Solutions, is one of those people.
With more than two decades of EMS experience and a career grounded in service, Scott’s journey is both inspiring and deeply human. It began, fittingly, with a simple but powerful thread: the desire to help.
“I’ve worked in healthcare my entire career,” Scott recalls. “My first job was as a lifeguard — it was always about service.”
After earning a degree in sports medicine and physical therapy, Scott began working in rehabilitation. But something was missing. His curiosity led him to enroll in an EMS program. On his very first ride-time as a student, he encountered both a cardiac arrest and a trauma alert that required airlift transport.
“I was just in it. I loved it,” he says. “That world of EMS — it was constant. Always something going on. But the main thing? It was the service.”
Scott quickly moved up through the ranks, eventually taking the role of Chief of Clinical Training for a service supporting over 750 employees across 13 agencies. It was there that his path intersected with the world of healthcare simulation — a turning point that would reshape his approach to education and preparedness.
“Simulation started with no user guide. No YouTube. I had to figure it out. And once I understood its potential, I realized how much more we could do to prepare our teams.”
Scott created one of the first mobile simulation programs that brought simulation training to the field, making education more accessible, relevant, and impactful.
“People don’t always feel comfortable coming into a training center” he says. “But if you bring the training to where they are, they open up — and that’s when real learning happens.”
One of the most powerful moments in Scott’s career came on his last call in the field: an infant cardiac arrest.
“It was my last day. My last 911 call. I had to call on everything I had ever learned,” says Scott.
According to Scott, that moment became more proof as to the importance of high-quality education and training. He explains that the moment remains in his mind today as he prepares for his courses.
For Scott, teaching isn’t just about passing on knowledge — it’s about preparing others for the moments that matter. It’s about creating ripple effects that extend beyond the classroom and into communities.
“I can take care of a single patient, and I’ve done that hundreds of times. But if I train one person well, they can go on to help hundreds more. That’s why I teach.”
And that teaching continues. Today, Scott specializes in developing instructional content and curricula for Elevate Healthcare, drawing on his field experience and his expertise in instructional design to build meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.
His impact doesn’t stop at the borders of Elevate Healthcare or the walls of a classroom. Scott’s commitment to service is rooted in his family, too — a legacy that spans generations.
“My dad is a Marine. My wife is a nurse practitioner. My kids are service-minded — and I couldn’t be more proud.”
Whether he’s leading a training, developing simulation tools, or mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals, Scott carries the same passion he had when he stepped into an ambulance for the first time — and the same sense of responsibility.
“This isn’t about recognition,” he says. “It’s about making sure the next 18-year-old fresh out of high school knows how to show up for someone in their worst moment.”
For Scott, it’s never been about the spotlight. It’s about honoring those who came before — the mentors, educators, and field providers who laid the groundwork and passed on their knowledge through years of service. It’s about standing alongside all first responders, past and present, who continue to show up when it matters most. Whether answering a call in the field or guiding learners in the classroom, Scott sees his role as carrying forward that legacy — quietly, faithfully, and with deep respect for all who choose this noble path.
At Elevate Healthcare, we’re proud to stand beside educators like Scott Temple, who are not only preparing learners for what’s next — they’re shaping the future of healthcare itself.
